Clean
Air Day and Environment Week throughout British
Columbia
Visit
these national websites to find out about Canadian Environment Week (June 1-7, 2008) and Clean
Air Day in your community. If you don't see your community on the website, check your local
news media for information. Take a look at photos from across Canada on Clean
Air Day 2007.
National
Commuter Challenge (June 1- 7, 2008)
The
national Commuter Challenge is a friendly
competition between Canadian cities to see which
one can cut its air pollution the most, by using
environmentally friendly modes of transportation.
These include carpooling, taking public transit,
cycling,
rollerblading and
walking. Teleworking (working at home) is another
way to reduce vehicle emissions.
Some
communities in British Columbia get involved
in the national
Commuter Challenge, and others run smaller, local challenges. For more information, check the national Clean
Air Day site.
Bike
to Work Week, B.C. (June 2-8, 2008)
Bike
to Work Week is
meant to encourage people throughout B.C. to commute by bicycle.
The main part of the campaign is
a friendly challenge,
in which
employees at different work places compete to
have the most people
commuting by bike. Bike to Work Week also includes
cycling competitions, venues providing support
and information for cyclists, and courses on
cycling traffic
skills.
Make Clean Air Your Choice!
Clean Air Day takes place on the first Wednesday in June, every year. But don't let it last for only one day.
Here's how you can adopt lifelong clean-air habits and a "green" attitude.
