B.C. Community Energy and Emissions Inventory Initiative
April 2008
The Community Energy and Emissions Inventory (CEEI) initiative is being undertaken to provide community energy- and greenhouse-gas-inventory reports for all B.C. local governments.
This provincially sponsored data collection, analysis and reporting system will provide local governments with inventory baselines, ongoing monitoring and periodic reports to help inform
community decision making and support provincial objectives. The first inventories are anticipated to represent energy-consumption and greenhouse-gas emissions from community activities
in land use, transportation, buildings and solid waste. Other sectors will be explored in subsequent years.
To generate the inventories, the Province will gather data from sources such as utilities, fuel suppliers, the Insurance
Corporation of BC and the Recycling Council of BC. The first CEEI reports will be generated for all local governments across British Columbia later this year. These communities will
find these base-year reports helpful — whether they are following through on their Climate
Action Charter commitment to measure and report on their community's GHG emissions profile,
or as they prepare for provincial legislation that will require communities to establish greenhouse-gas targets and strategies in their Official Community Plans and Regional Growth
Strategies.
Below are the first three CEEI reports. This website will be updated as work on the CEEI initiative progresses.
