INDUSTRIAL EMISSIONS

1. Codes of Practice and Regulatory Review
The Ministry of Environment is developing codes of practice and reviewing existing regulations under the Environmental
Management Act. For information about the act and its authorizations, the Waste Discharge Regulation and Guide, and minister's codes of practice, see the Environmental
Management Act.
The codes of practice and regulations targeted for development and review in 2006 include:
- Concrete and Concrete Products Industry Code of Practice
- Industrial Non-Hazardous Waste Landfills Code of Practice
- Primary Wood Manufacturing Industry Code of Practice
- Vehicle Dismantling and Recycling Industry Regulation
- Hazardous Waste Regulation
- Open Burning Smoke Control Regulation

2. Emission Criteria and Guidelines
Provincial Medium Density Fibreboard Emission Guidelines
These guidelines have been developed to control total particulates, formaldehyde and opacity. Medium density fibreboard
(MDF) consists of small wood fragments and sawdust, resin (usually urea formaldehyde) and wax bonded under high pressure to form a manufactured board.
Emission Criteria for Gas Turbines
December 1992
These emission criteria update and elaborate on those set for natural gas combustion in the Pollution Control Objectives
for Food Processing, Agriculturally Oriented and Other Miscellaneous Industries of British Columbia, published in 1975.

3. Emission Monitoring
British Columbia Environmental Laboratory Manual: 2007
For the Analysis of Water, Wastewater, Sediment, Biological Materials and Discrete Ambient Air Samples
May 2007
This manual supercedes the 2005 version. It was developed by the Ministry of Environment in cooperation with the B.C. Laboratory
Environmental Quality Assurance Advisory Committee.
British Columbia
Field Sampling Manual — for
Continuous Monitoring, and the Collection of Air, Air-Emission, Water, Wastewater, Soil, Sediment, and Biological Samples
January 2003
The 2003 edition of the British Columbia Field Sampling Manual. defines the general sampling procedures, protocols and
equipment that permittees are normally expected to use when carrying out monitoring required by the ministry.

4. State of Environment Reporting
Environmental Trends in British Columbia 2002

This report is available in PDF (4.9 MB), on the Environmental
Trends in British Columbia 2002 website. It has also been broken down into topic area — by individual environmental indicators, each of which have their own "subsite." Quick
(At a Glance) and more detailed (In Depth) explanations of each indicators are supplied, along with graphs and longer technical reports.The topics include:
- air quality;
- health and environment;
- surface water and ground water;
- toxic contaminants;
- greenhouse gases and climate change;
- energy and the economy; and
- impact mitigation.
