1. Introduction to the Laboratory Services Section

Laboratory Services is a service organization providing specific laboratory support services to a large portion of the ministry and some external operations.

We administer a contract with Philip Analytical Services Inc. (PSC Analytical) for the provision of a wide range of testing services out of its Burnaby laboratory. We also manage service agreements with Environment Canada for the provision of laboratory services out of their Pacific Environmental Science Centre (PESC) in North Vancouver — as well as with two small private sector laboratories in Vancouver that provide taxonomic (Fraser Environment Services) and bacteriological analyses (JR Laboratories). In addition, we prepare and publish the province’s permittee manuals covering Laboratory Methods and Field Sampling.

Laboratory Services works closely with Environment Canada (PESC) on laboratory matters. In addition, we frequently work with several other internal and external organizations and committees, including the B.C. Laboratory Quality Assurance Advisory Committee (BCLQAA).
