ARKive images of life on earth   International centralised digital library of films, photographs and associated recordings of species at risk.

Canadian National Vegetation Classification (C-NVC)   The proposed C-NVC system will facilitate the comparisons among provincial ecosystem classifications that are needed for developing national status ranking of ecosystems in Canada.

Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES)   CITES sets controls on the international trade and movement of animal and plant species that have been, or may be, threatened due to excessive commercial exploitation. Within Canada, the implementation and administration of CITES are shared among federal and provincial agencies to make the best use of existing organizational structures and to reduce costs. As the representative of Canada, the Canadian Wildlife Service is responsible for managing CITES species in Canada.

Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada (COSEWIC)   COSEWIC is a committee of experts that determines which wild species are at risk of disappearing from Canada. Please visit the COSEWIC web site for the current lists and ranks of species assessed by COSEWIC.

Environment Canada Green Lane (Canadian government links to environment sites)   Environment Canada's Internet resource for weather and environmental information. The Green Lane helps connect Canadians, exchange information and share knowledge for environmental decision-making.

Environment Canada Species at Risk   Environment Canada's Internet resource for species at risk. Includes information about recovery, finantial support, legislation, publications and links to other related sites.

International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN)   The IUCN (World Conservation Union) assesses the conservation status of species, subspecies, varieties and even selected sub-populations on a global scale in order to highlight taxa threatened with extinction, and therefore promote their conservation. The current list of Threatened Species highlights those taxa that are facing a higher risk of global extinction (i.e. those listed as Critically Endangered, Endangered and Vulnerable) and provides taxonomic, conservation status and distribution information on these taxa.

Library   Information about the special technical library which serves staff of the Ministry of Forests and Range, and the Ministry of Environment throughout the province of British Columbia. Includes a catalogue with over 50,000 records of books and reports in multiple locations, and a comprehensive list of links to environmental information.

Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC)   Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) works to protect Canada's most threatened natural habitats and the endangered species that call them home. NCC is Canada's only national charity dedicated to preserving ecologically significant areas through outright purchase, donations and conservation easements.

The Nature Conservancy (US)   The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is a private, international conservation group. The mission of TNC is to preserve plants, animals and natural communities that represent the diversity of life on Earth by protecting the lands and waters they need to survive. TNC used to oversee the Natural Heritage Network, but that duty has been taken over by NatureServe.

NatureServe   An organization dedicated to providing reliable information on species and ecosystems for use in conservation and land use planning. NatureServe is an independent nonprofit organization created in collaboration with the Network of Natural Heritage Programs and Conservation Data Centres and The Nature Conservancy (U.S.).

NatureServe Canada   NatureServe Canada was incorporated in 1994 as a private nonprofit association, to advance the goals of the Conservation Data Centres (CDC), Natural Heritage Information Centres (NHIC), Natural Heritage Programs and associated organizations whose mission is to provide information on the distribution, abundance, and conservation needs of rare species and natural communities to governments, industries, researchers, NGOs, and individuals. NatureServe Canada assists its members to operate as a network by sharing technologies, facilitating the exchange of knowledge and experiences, and facilitating the development of multi jurisdictional information products and services.

Our Home and Native Land: Canadian Species of Global Conservation Concern (PDF 2 MB)   This report provides a comprehensive examination of Canadian species in a global context, complementing the local and national perspectives used in other important studies and listing processes carried out by agencies of provincial and federal government. Wild Species 2005   Wild Species 2005 provides a collaborative national overview of the condition of Canadian wild flora and fauna - what we have, where they occur, and how they're doing. The 2005 report has enhanced searching capabilities, allowing searches by species, species group, jurisdiction or General Status rank.
