The Story of Jerry the Moose
Once upon a time (about 1960), a very special moose was born in the forests of British Columbia. His name was Jerry and he would have grown up like many ordinary moose except for something that happened that was very, very special.
One day when Jerry was munching on a meal of Falsebox (a moose's favourite food), Jerry met a man named Charlie Simpson. Charlie and Jerry became friends right away and Jerry decided to move to Charlie's farm. Soon, everyone around heard about the friendly little moose that came when his name was called.
In fact, some of the people at BC
Parks heard about Jerry and asked him to do a very important
job. They asked if Jerry would come and live in a park so they
could study a real live moose up close and find out all sorts of
interesting things about him. So, Jerry moved from Charlie's farm
to a new home in Wells Gray Provincial Park (you can find it on
a map) and soon became the favourite of everyone who
worked there. His old friend Charlie Simpson even came to visit
him and Jerry recognized him right away.
In fact, Jerry was so happy working for the people at BC Parks that he signed on as a full-time employee. Today, Jerry works for BC Parks telling grown-ups and kids how beautiful and important our parks are.
If you see Jerry the Moose in a BC Park, don't be
afraid to go up and say hello. Who knows, Jerry might even teach
you his special moose call!
