Garibaldi Park Management Plan Amendment
BC Parks is preparing to undertake an amendment to the 1990 Garibaldi Park Management Plan. The purpose of this project is to a) provide supplemental direction, and b) confirm existing direction regarding
public access in the Spearhead Range of Garibaldi Park.
The Garibaldi Park Management Plan amendment is focused on the Spearhead Range and Fitzsimmons Range. The study area encompasses a portion of the park from Wedge Creek southwest to the north side of Cheakamus Lake and south and east following the boundary of the Natural Environment Zone as illustrated in the
attached map.

The following three key principles will guide the management plan amendment:
- Non-motorised public access is supported.
- No regulatory changes are being considered.
- No zoning changes are considered; the amendments will be consistent with the current zoning.
A management plan amendment is a focused exercise that involved updating specific direction in an existing management plan. We are proposing to amend nine sections of the Garibaldi Park Management Plan related to: land management, cultural resources, hiking/backpacking, mountain biking, winter recreation, and commercial recreation services - all as they related to the study area. The specific sections of the plan that are proposed to be amended are provided
here.
