Kalamalka Lake Provincial Park Management Planning

BC Parks has recently concluded the management planning process for Kalamalka Lake Provincial Park.

Management Planning Schedule

Stage 1: Initial planning and Project Plan Approval (complete)

The public comment period on the initial planning stage concluded on March 9, 2018. BC Parks is greatly appreciative of all the comments and input received and to those who attended the public information session in January 2018. Just over 250 submissions were received.

Stage 2: Development of the Draft Management Plan (complete)

A draft management plan was developed during the fall of 2018. Development of the management plan strongly considered much of the public and stakeholder input received, as such, the draft management plan reflects a balanced approach to the future management of Kalamalka Lake Park.

Stage 3: Draft Management Plan open for public review (complete)

A draft management plan [PDF] was open for public comment from November 23, 2018 to January 31, 2019. A public information session was held on December 10, 2018 in Vernon. Approximately 130 people attended. Online comment forms and hard copy comments forms focused on the draft management plan were also submitted to BC Parks. Stage 4: Final Management Plan Developed and Approved (complete)

Background Information

  • The new Kalamalka Lake Park Management Plan replaces the 2003 Purpose Statement and Zoning Plan (PSZP) for the park area which existed prior to 2001 (978 hectares), and the PSZP which was approved in 2006 for the former Kalamalka Lake Protected Area, which was established in 2001 and provided Class A park status in 2008.
