Background Information

BC Parks is updating the previous draft management plan for Lac du Bois Grasslands Protected Area due to land additions in early 2013 and to provide more detailed management direction for the Tranquille Special Feature Area portion of the protected area. A draft management plan for Lac du Bois Grasslands Protected Area was prepared in 2004 [PDF 1.79MB] that is considered to provide current and effective direction for the protected area obtained through a previous public consultation process. The recent additions (shown in red on the map) may require changes to this draft due to issues or values associated with the added lands. Those aspects of the existing draft management plan for Lac du Bois Grasslands Protected Area directly affected by the additions will be reviewed. Changes to the draft management plan that affect the original area of Lac du Bois Grasslands Protected Area will only be considered if there are substantive issues or opportunities that have arisen since 2004. After any required changes are made, the draft management plan will be made available for final public review prior to final approval.

BC Parks is also taking this opportunity to complete more detailed management planning for the Tranquille Special Features Zone (“Tranquille SFA” on the protected area map) within Lac du Bois Grasslands Protected Area. Management direction for this area was previously provided by a separate Management Direction Statement [PDF]. This was provided as short and medium term guidance for operational management, to be reviewed as more information became available and a more detailed management plan was developed. Since that time, an additional Background Document for Tranquille Wildlife Management Area [PDF 4.17MB] and An Ecological Assessment of Alternative Management Options Related to the Tranquille Wildlife Management Area [PDF] have become available.
