Conservation Officer
Annual Salary Range
$45,000 – $67,000
Since 1905, Conservation Officers (COs) have diligently and professionally protected British Columbia's environment and natural resources, including the people who use and depend on those resources.
As compliance and enforcement specialists, today's Conservation Officer combines a wide variety of specialized skills. For instance, COs conduct investigations involving businesses, government agencies and individuals who are in non-compliance with environmental standards and regulations. While the primary role of a Conservation Officer is law enforcement - they are fully commissioned peace officers in the exercise of their duties - COs also work to promote voluntary compliance with environmental requirements and encourage shared stewardship.
It is a demanding but rewarding job and the motto,
"Integrity, Service and Protection", sums up in simple terms how the Conservation Officer Service handles the many complex and evolving challenges of modern-day environmental law enforcement.
