BC's Provincial Parks are areas of awe inspiring and humbling beauty, chosen for their educational, recreational, cultural, and natural values. As a Park Ranger in Garibaldi and the Vancouver Area, I have had the opportunity to work in these parks ensuring that the environment remains protected while recreational users appreciate its natural splendour. Whether it's through trail work, facility construction, one-on-one education, or the occasional enforcement- it's my privilege as a Park Ranger to optimize the experience of Park visitors so these areas will continue to be cherished in their natural state for posterity. During the summer I spend most days outdoors travelling by foot, bike, boat, or helicopter and often remain out for several consecutive nights in pristine and remote locations while completing fieldwork. We work extensively on skis in the wintertime and in addition to park maintenance and patrol, avalanche awareness education and stability evaluations are conducted regularly. My favourite aspects of this job are the wide range of skill sets that any day's challenges draw from, self-reliant and resourceful, and of course, working each day in the most stunning landscapes imaginable.
