Wildlife/Habitat Inventory and Mapping

The majority of the Cariboo region's wildlife inventory and habitat mapping was historically done by the Ministry of Environment, Lands and Parks, Cariboo Region. Important supporting wildlife and ecological research plus adaptive management work has been done by the Cariboo regional staff of Ministry of Forests (now Ministry of Forests and Range). Ministry of Environment regional staff currently participate in wildlife/habitat inventory projects and data management. If any data files cannot be properly viewed please contact the regional office. Hardcopy versions of all reports are located in the regional MoE office. Note: some information is confidential (e.g., grizzly bear locations, nest sites etc.) and has been removed from the reports posted on this site.

The Ministry of Environment works with the Integrated Land Management Bureau in the implementation and monitoring of the Cariboo–Chilcotin Land Use Plan. Considerable effort has gone into caribou and mule deer inventory and habitat mapping projects under the direction of the Northern and Mountain Caribou Strategies and the Mule Deer Strategy. Important modelling projects have been undertaken to clarify and define key elements of the Biodiversity Strategy.
