The Province of B.C. has committed to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 33 per cent from 2007 levels by 2020.

Under authority of Section 29 of the Reporting Regulation, the Ministry of Environment is pleased to publish reported facility greenhouse gas emissions levels for the 2010 calendar year.  Reported emissions include releases that can be attributed directly to the operation itself such as on-site combustion of natural gas, but exclude any indirect emissions from electricity use, upstream emissions or emissions related to consumption of goods produced.

The 2010 Facility Greenhouse Gas Emissions Report Summaries represent the first publication of industrial greenhouse gas emissions by the Ministry.  The emissions reports serve both as a baseline for companies, the Ministry and interested parties to understand emissions profiles, and a valuable tool for reporting operations to reduce emissions in the most cost effective way. The reported data show that industrial reporting operations with emissions of 10,000 tonnes or greater of CO2 equivalent are responsible for 28% of total British Columbia emissions.

The 2010 facility emissions summaries provide more detail on industrial emissions than the Provincial Greenhouse Gas Inventory Report, but do not replace or supplant it. Along with the Community Energy and Emissions Inventory Reports and Carbon Neutral Government Reports (e.g. public sector buildings and fleets), the emissions summaries provide further detail on British Columbia's greenhouse gas emissions sources.

Facility Greenhouse Gas Emissions Report Summaries

The Facility Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reports contain major source category emissions reported under the Reporting Regulation for the following:

  • Single facility operations
  • Linear facilities operations
    • Linear facilities operations as a whole
    • Individual facilities within linear facilities operations with emissions equal to or greater than 10,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent
    • One aggregate report summary for all individual facilities within linear facilities operations with emissions less than 10,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent

Emissions reports are provided both in pdf format (below) and in a master excel file containing emissions for all reporting operations in British Columbia.

Future Facility Greenhouse Gas Emissions Report Summaries are anticipated to be published annually.  It is expected that verification results, further summaries and other products will be published on this site over time.

The emissions reports submitted by the reporting operations have not been fully verified by the Ministry and some modifications can be expected if issues are found.
