Information Management Services

The Data Administration Section is responsible for Corporate Data Administration, the Ministry Data Warehouse (spatial and attribute) and the Corporate GIS Infrastructure.

In addition, the Data Administration Unit is responsible for providing the following services:

  • Data Administration Strategy — Formulating strategies, providing leadership and coordinating organizational activities surrounding data definition, management and access, such as IM Working Group, Data Administration education and training and management of the GIS infrastructure budget.

  • Data Definition Infrastructure — Coordinating standards and tools for definition of client data (such as meta-data standards, spatial data definition standards, data modeling standards, the Data Registry, and master spatial and attribute data warehouse schema) in support of reduced data redundancy and maximum ability to share data among clients.

  • Data Management Infrastructure — Coordinating standards and tools for ongoing management of client data resources (such as corporate and inter-ministry data management standards, the Data Warehouse, the CASE repository) in a manner that ensures accuracy, integrity, security, availability and quality of spatial, attribute, textual and image data. Providing support for data loading and maintenance of the attribute and spatial warehouse components.

  • Data Access Infrastructure — Coordinating standards and tools for access to client data, such as data replication standards, security controls, and GOAT custodianship.
