VENUS Data Capture Application

The VENUS data capture application was developed for capturing ecological data collected using the RISC standard, the Field Manual for Describing Terrestrial Ecosystems (DTEIF). VENUS follows the same codes and definitions used on the DTEIF Ecosystem field forms (FS882 & GIF).

The latest version, VENUS 5.1, includes a feature that converts data from earlier versions, including VENUS 2.2, VENUS 3.0 and VENUS 4.2, into the new format. It also includes some additional reporting and validation functions, as well as the ability to import and export data to Microsoft Excel.

VENUS uses Microsoft ACCESS 97 databases in a provincially standardized format, but does not require the user to have ACCESS on their PC. There is no charge for this program, but it is copyrighted by the Province of British Columbia. The application runs on Windows platforms, including Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows NT and Windows XP, and has its own installation program (Install Shield).

Minimum System Requirements:

  • Pentium/300MHz
  • 64Mb of RAM
  • 20Mb (hard drive space for program and data)
