Bioterrain Mapping Standards

Bioterrain mapping is a primary building block for Terrestrial Ecosystem Mapping in B.C. and is often used as a component in the development of Predictive Ecosystem Mapping products. As a result, a standardized approach to bioterrain mapping was developed as a component of the TEM Methodology and approved by the Resources Information Standards Committee (RISC). This approach combines the recognizable permanent terrain and landscape features defined in the terrain classification system for B.C. Howes and Kenk (1997), with recognizable biological features defined in the TEM Methodology and inferred soil drainage characteristics as defined by the Canada Soil Survey Committee (1978). Attributes considered include surficial material, terrain texture, surface expression, qualifying descriptor, geomorphological processes, and soil drainage.

Bioterrain data capture is integrated into the TEM Data Capture Application.
