B.C. Air Quality

What Business and Industry Can Do

The provincial government has set regulatory requirements to control emissions from business and industry. See Air Quality Regulatory Framework for details. For information on obtaining an authorization to discharge waste to the environment, see Waste Discharge Authorizations.

Business and industry can also help improve air quality and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by introducing better technology and industrial practices.

Beyond compliance with existing regulations, permit conditions and local bylaws, industrial operations can:

  • undertake voluntary measures;
  • reduce emissions when modernizing or expanding production processes;
  • participate in and support airshed planning; and
  • implement sectoral initiatives such as Responsible Care; ISO standards.
