B.C. Air Quality

What are Pollutants and Emissions?

When we talk about air pollution, two main terms are used: pollutants and emissions:

  • Pollutants are unwanted chemicals or other materials found in the air, at high enough concentrations to endanger the environment and people’s health.
  • Emissions are discharges of a pollutant from a particular source (e.g., a factory) or group of sources (e.g., vehicles) into the air.
