Types of Wood-Burning Appliances

Wood-burning appliances can be classified as space heaters, intended to heat the space directly, or central-heating systems, which supply heat through a system of ducts or pipes.  Space heaters include wood stoves, pellet stoves, conventional fireplaces, high-efficiency fireplaces, fireplace inserts and masonry heaters. Central heating systems include wood-fired furnaces and outdoor wood-fired hydronic heaters, or boilers.
