Municipal
Sewage Regulation
The
Municipal
Sewage Regulation was developed in consultation with
stakeholders to produce a comprehensive and progressive regulation
governing
all aspects of municipal wastewater management. The regulation
was approved on April 23, 1999 and became effective July
15, 1999. Amendments were made to the Municipal Sewage Regulation in April of 2006 and in October of 2006).
A
variety of factors shaped the regulation and they include:
-
major
environmental policy developments;
-
stakeholder
feedback; and
-
the
drive for administrative efficiency.
-
environmental
benefits to improve water quality;
-
economic
benefits to stimulate infrastructure renewal and economic growth;
and
-
administrative
benefits to cut red tape and improve efficiency.
The
ministry has established a multi-stakeholder Implementation Committee
to develop policies, procedures and guidelines to facilitate implementation
of the regulation.
To
promote awareness of the regulation, the ministry will be conducting
workshops in various regions of the province aimed at local governments,
professionals, and service and technology providers.
The
Municipal Sewage Regulation is also available in hard copy
from Crown Publications Inc.
and an electronic version is available at Municipal
Sewage Regulation.
