About Us
The Hazard Management Policy Reviews Unit and the Business Section in Victoria, in conjunction with the ministry’s regional staff, are responsible for the Hazardous Waste Management Program in British Columbia.
The staff in Victoria provide services in a number of areas:
- The Hazard Management Policy Reviews Unit staff, with input from regional staff, provides advice on policy and standards for the program as reflected in the Environmental Management Act and the Hazardous Waste Regulation.
- The Business Section is responsible for
- the registration of hazardous waste generators and facilities,
- the licensing of hazardous waste transporters and
- the management of the Special Waste Information System, which provides "cradle to grave" tracking of the movement of hazardous waste in British Columbia.
The ministry's regional staff work with the generators, carriers and receivers of hazardous waste to ensure that they handle, store, transport, treat and dispose of hazardous waste according to the Hazardous Waste Regulation and in a manner that the safety of human health and of the environment is not compromised.
