Stewardship Plans
The Recycling Regulation provides a legal framework for establishing industry-led product stewardship programs. Section 4 of the Regulation requires producers to submit a stewardship plan and specific product categories may also have unique plan requirements listed in the Regulation's Product Schedules. The basic components required in a stewardship plan are specified in section 5 of the Regulation and include:
- Product Recovery Target(s)
- Stakeholder Consultation
- Collection System
- Consumer Awareness
- Program Performance Measurement
- Dispute Resolution
- Product Life Cycle Management
- Pollution Prevention Hierarchy
The following stewardship plan documents were approved by the Ministry of Environment for this product category:
Encorp Pacific (Canada)'s stewardship plan for non-alcohol beverages and wine, spirits, coolers and import beer sold in non-refillable containers
Supplemental Information
Brewers Distributor Ltd.'s stewardship plan for beer brands sold in cans and refillable bottles
This stewardship plan is anticipated to be posted in Autumn 2008 following plan finalization by BDL and approval by the ministry.
