Update: Consultation on the Beverage Container Product Category in the Recycling Regulation
Between October, 2011, and February 28, 2012, the Ministry of Environment consulted with stakeholders and the public on key aspects of the beverage schedule of the Recycling Regulation. The objective of the consultation process was to identify options to increase the recovery rate for beverage containers in all regions of the province and improve environmental management of collected containers with the least incremental financial impact to consumers and producers. The Ministry of Environment engaged CM Consulting of Ontario to provide support during the consultation process.

Status of the consultation process
Consultation input has been gathered through targeted telephone interviews with directly affected stakeholders, in writing from any interested party, and during a public consultation workshop in Vancouver on November 23, 2011.
A consultation summary (PDF/356 KB) and appendices (PDF/11.0 MB) summarizing stakeholder perspectives expressed up to December 31, 2011 is available for review. Additional comment was solicited from stakeholders up to February 28, 2012. The consultation process is now closed and further submissions will not be considered within this consultation process. A final consultation summary of all input received will be released for stakeholder review in early April, 2012.
Next Steps
On the basis of the findings of the final report the Ministry of Environment will consider whether there is a need for a more detailed review process.
