Wood Stove Exchange Program
The wood stove exchange program allows Cariboo residents to replace old or uncertified wood stoves with highly efficient, US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) emissions-certified, clean-burning appliances.
Local wood stove retailers are offering Cariboo residents a substantial discount toward the purchase of a new stove, when surrendering their old stove- which will then be destroyed. Trade-in allowance will be $150.00 off qualifying appliances at the till. The British Columbia Provincial Government will also be offering a $250 rebate. Tracking forms will be used to record the type of stoves that go in, and come out of, participating homes. The program also applies to residents installing high-efficiency gas, pellet and electric stoves / inserts as a replacement.
An additional incentive being offered by the Air Quality Roundtables in Quesnel and Williams Lake is a $300 cash rebate for the first 50 stoves exchanged within the airshed boundaries in each of the two cities. Please follow the links to Airshed Boundary Maps for Williams Lake and Quesnel or call the Baker Creek Enhancement Society at 1-877-992-5833 to find out if you qualify.
Make the choice for cleaner air. New emissions-certified wood stoves burn one-third less wood; and reduce smoke and particulates entering the atmosphere by up to 90 percent.
Objective of the Cariboo Wood Stove Exchange Program
The objective of this program is to encourage homeowners to trade in inefficient wood stoves and replace them with new Canadian Standards Association (CSA) and US EPA certified clean-burning appliances. The old stoves are rendered inoperable and then recycled.
The program is also designed to educate and encourage people who use wood heat to reduce smoke pollution safely and efficiently by offering financial incentives and important information.
