Volunteer Lake Monitoring Program
The Cariboo Volunteer Lake Monitoring Program began in 1996. Motivation for this program arose from a recognized need to improve our understanding of the current state of Cariboo lakes. Under the VLMP program, concerned citizens, the Ministry of Environment (MOE), and the BC Lake Stewardship Society (BCLSS) work together to ensure the VLMP's success.
Each year, data collection began at ice-off and continues through the summer months. At the end of each sampling season, data is compiled and interpreted in order to determine nutrient status and lake sensitivity to future land development. This background data serves an important role in helping to identify potential future deterioration of lake water quality.
