Wasa Lake Ground Water Quality Assessment
A ground water investigation was conducted in the community of Wasa Lake in 2003 to determine the suitability of drinking water from the Wasa IA aquifer. This study found water quality in the Wasa aquifer met available drinking water quality guidelines. The presence of total coliform bacteria in some samples suggests the aquifer may be vulnerable to contamination from surface sources. Residents using the aquifer as a drinking water source should contact the Kootenay Health Protection office of the Interior Health Authority for advice about treating water so that it is safe to consume.
