Municipal Solid Waste
Solid Waste Management Planning
All regional districts in British Columbia have approved solid waste management plans (SWMP) which provide authorization for the regional districts to manage municipal solid wastes (MSW). This link provides guidance to regional districts on how to prepare a SWMP.
Incineration and Landfilling
This link provides information regarding emission criteria for MSW and biomedical incinerators, landfill criteria, and guidelines for environmental monitoring for MSW facilities and establishing transfer stations. The Landfill Criteria for Municipal Solid Waste provide guidelines on siting, design, operation and closure of MSW landfills including strategies to reduce the production of landfill gas (i.e., greenhouse gas as well as initiatives to reduce bear / human conflicts at landfills).
Organic Matter Recycling Regulation (OMRR)
The OMRR sets standards for the beneficial reuse of composted organic matter including wood waste, biosolids and food waste.
Tire, car battery, paint and beverage container recycling programs.
Provides information about waste reduction initiatives. Provides access to B.C.'s Solid Waste Tracking Report.
