Remediation Liability

The Environmental Management Act and Contaminated Sites Regulation lay out various principles of liability, or responsibility, for the cost of cleaning up contaminated sites in B.C. Those who are in some way responsible for causing contamination are classified as “responsible persons”, and those persons are responsible for paying the costs of remediation at sites. We refer to this type of liability as “remediation liability”.
