Key Topics
- Information on Sites
If you want to learn about sites in British Columbia which may be, are, or have been contaminated, there are a number of ways you can use to access that type of information.
- Contaminated Sites Services
If you want to obtain a contaminated sites legal instrument (such as an Approval in Principle or Certificate of Compliance) or the review of a report we have a number of documents and forms that will explain how the process works.
- Roster of Approved Professionals
A number of specially qualified and experienced professional biologists, geoscientists, agrologists and engineers have been appointed by the Director of Waste Management to the Roster of Approved Professionals.
- Brownfields and Brownfield Redevelopment
Brownfields are vacant or underutilized commercial and industrial properties which may be contaminated and also have an active potential for redevelopment. Redeveloped and returned to productive use, brownfield sites can generate significant economic, social and environmental benefits and more sustainable communities overall.
- High Profile Sites
The Land Remediation Section is involved with thousands of sites throughout British Columbia of varying sizes and complexities.
- Site Profiles
Site profiles are a screening tool used to identify potentially contaminated sites. They are completed and submitted when potentially contaminated sites are being decommissioned, are in foreclosure proceedings, are subject to local government applications and/or permits, and are being sold.
- Independent Remediation
At many sites, remediation may be routine, the risks posed by the site low, and methods of treatment readily available. With the assistance of capable environmental consultants, such a site can be remediated with very little involvement of the ministry.
- Offsite Migration
The Contaminated Sites Regulation requires that notices be sent to affected neighbours and the ministry if a responsible person becomes aware of the migration or likely migration of contaminants from his or her source site to a neighbouring site.
