Water and Air Monitoring and Reporting

Online User Guide: Environmental Monitoring System Web Reporting (EMS WR)

3.1 Signing on to EMS WR

This section explains how to gain access to EMS WR. All users will need to know the information covered in this section.

3.1.1 Usernames and passwords

Because EMS WR is a secure system, you must have a username and password to enter it. A username is your identity when you use EMS WR. For example, Jane Smith's EMS WR username might be "jsmith". Your password allows the system to confirm your identity.

B.C. Government employees, health authority staff, and water purveyors should contact the EMS Helpdesk to request a username and password:

You must provide information specific to your user group:

  • Government staff
    • name
    • ministry
    • office/region
    • e-mail address
    • phone number

  • Health authority staff
    • name
    • health authority name
    • e-mail address
    • phone number

  • Water purveyors
    • name
    • company/location
    • e-mail address
    • phone number
    • monitoring location(s) EMS ID(s) permitted to view

Business Need Hint: water purveyors might need to request the creation of a monitoring location/EMS ID. If desired, they can also request that a monitoring location be assigned to a health region. This is required if you are planning to use the DW Bacteriological and Pool/Hot Tub predefined reports. For these requests, contact your nearest Ministry of Environment regional office or the Environmental Quality Branch.

3.1.2 Access levels

EMS WR has two access levels for users:

  • Full: government and health authority employees will usually have access to all aspects of EMS WR
  • Limited: water purveyors are typically limited to information associated with the EMS ID numbers (monitoring locations) that relate to them. If water purveyors attempt to access unauthorized information, they will receive an error message.
