Recreation
Stewardship Panel
In
May 2002, the Minister of Water, Land and Air Protection appointed
an expert panel to make recommendations on a new management and
funding model for fish, wildlife and park recreation.
The
Recreation Stewardship Panel included Bruce Strachan as the chair
of the panel, and David Narver, Bob Peart, Aidan Vining, Chief
Harry Nyce and Bob Dalziel. Members were chosen for their experience
and expertise in environmental stewardship, recreation management
and financial management.
The panel's
initial work included a review of available research and an evaluation
of other jurisdictions' approaches to managing and funding fish,
wildlife and parks. As well, the panel consulted First Nations
and province-wide organizations. The panel prepared a draft report
on September 15th that was broadly available for public review.
The panel received 675 submissions in response to that report.
On November 29th, the panel submitted their final report to the
Minister.
