Wildfire Response and Recovery
Ministry of Environment Fire Response Group
As the land manager for over 12% of the province including parks
and protected areas and conservation lands, the Ministry of Environment is responsible for managing the effects
of natural disturbances such as wildfires on these lands. The Ministry of Environment Fire
Response Group was established to provide information, guidelines
and standards for Ministry of Environment wildfire
management and research.
The Fire Response
Group is composed of both Headquarters and Regional staff from Environmental
Protection Division, Environmental Stewardship Division, Biodiversity
Branch, Parks and Protected Areas Branch and Fish and Wildlife,
Recreation and Allocation Branch. The Fire Response Group works
closely with the Ministry of Forests to coordinate: wildfire management
planning and fuel reduction projects; wildfire suppression and management;
and, post wildfire restoration activities in parks and protected
areas, conservation lands managed by the Ministry of Environment and on crown lands.
