New (Jan 6, 2012): As mentioned in a Nov 24, 2011 update (removed), a further change to the Fish Data Submission SharePoint site URL has occured. This is the last expected URL change for the forseeable future. The change has occured as part of an update to the newest version of MS SharePoint (SharePoint 10).

The new URL is https://spc-env.gov.bc.ca/ESI/FI/FSubs/default.aspx. Please ensure that you are using this URL in your bookmarks. The “Enter Online Site” link provided on this website’s “Submit your Data ” page http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/fish_data_sub/ready_to_sub.html has been updated with the new URL. Please note that there may be some minor visual differences in the page. All functionality should be retained. (July 29, 2011): A new version of the excel template will soon be released, with the goal of providing clearer definitions of the spreadsheet fields and data requirements. Until that time you can either use the current version or wait until the new one is released (as long as you are within the 90 days of your perimit expiration).

Around the province, fisheries information and data are gathered as part of scientific or environmental studies. The Fish Data Submission website describes the process for fisheries managers, biologists, technicians and contractors to submit their fisheries data and sampling information to the Province. The process is outlined below.

Who needs to Submit?

You must submit through this process if you:

  • Have been issued a Scientific Fish Collection Permit by the Province of B.C. This is to meet the condition of your MoE Scientific Fish Collection permit to electronically report your fish collection activities within 90 days of the expiry of the permit. Note:  If you did not utilize your permit (i.e. did not attempt to conduct sampling) you still must submit basic "Project Information" regarding your intended project through the Online Fish Data Submissions site so that we know your permit was not used.
  • Have been directed to do so by a Province of B.C. or Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO Permit) authority

You may also be able to submit through this process if you:

  • Have non-permitted Fish and Fish Habitat information and have consulted and received permission from a B.C. Ministry of Environment (MoE) data submission specialist fishdatasub@gov.bc.ca. As instuctions may vary from what is presented on this site in this situation; please follow and adhere to the instructions provided with this consultation.

Follow these steps to Submit:

For MoE Scientific Fish Collection Permit Holders and DFO Permit Holders:

  1. Comply with the Minimum Data Standards / (Optional Reading: Purpose for Minimum Data Standards)
  2. Use the required Standard Reporting Formats (Excel Template or FDIS) in all cases where sampling has been carried out (including incidents where no fish have been caught (NFC), or streams are Dewatered or Dry/Intermittent or have No Visible Channel).
  3. Submit Your Data through the "Online Fish Data Submissions" Site (User Profile, Project Information, File Attachment)

 

For non-permitted Fish and Fish Habitat information:

  • Consult and receive permission from a B.C. Ministry of Environment (MoE) data submission specialist. Contact fishdatasub@gov.bc.ca to find the specialist in your region. As instructions may vary from what is presented on this site, in this situation; please follow and adhere to the instructions provided with the consultation.
