the Information Management Branch
The Information
Management Branch (IMB) supports the capture and management of land
and resource information, and provides services and products to data
providers and data users as a means of addressing the goals and vision
of the ministry.
The IMB believes
in strong working relationships and engages ministry staff, other government
agencies and the private sector in an interactive, collaborative and
cooperative manner.
Purpose
Purposes of the
branch include the following:
- create a warehouse
of land and resource information;
- provide efficient
integrated access to cadastral and resource information;
- maintain and
develop operational applications and database systems for a wide range
of clients (over 132 operational systems are used to capture and manage
information);
- ensure maintenance
of compatible data standards, models and technologies;
- support the
ministry's Registry Resource Information Department and regional operations;
and
- provide services
to clients to build new systems or undertake major enhancements or
rewrites to existing applications.
Goals
The goals of the
branch are:
- to provide operational
systems and services that
- can be used
to capture, edit and manage spatial and attribute land and resource
data as required by the business areas;
- provide
data capture tools and processes to consistent standards;
- allow the
information to be readily integrated into information warehouses;
and
- directly
support program business requirements for the capture and management
of land and resource data.
- to provide a
data management infrastructure to ensure efficient access to cadastral
and resource inventory information by:
- providing
easy access by anyone that has been granted authorization;
- providing
data integration for customized information views and information
for a variety of interpreted or derived products; and
- directly
supporting program business application development and operation
for access to the information.
