Background
British Columbia has a well established reputation for environmental protection and stewardship. In support of this, the Ministry of Environment created the Arbor Vitae Awards in 2007, with an aim to acknowledge individuals whose hard work, dedication and commitment are helping B.C. to lead the world in sustainable environmental management.
The awards invited British Columbians to nominate a friend, neighbour, colleague, community or business leader, whose everyday work and dedication makes a difference in the betterment of the environment.
In a time when climate change is a palpable threat and the need to curb the effects of global warming becomes progressively more apparent, it is particularly meaningful to recognise individual contributions to environmental health. The Arbor Vitae Awards honour the people behind the everyday actions that benefit our environment, creating a legacy of sustainability and responsible environmental citizenship.
