Marine Fisheries

Major goal - to advance provincial interests as they relate to the sustainable management and development of marine fisheries.

Objective - to provide enhanced social and economic benefits through responsible management practices that protect the environment and maintain viable healthy fish stocks. Strategies include:

1. participation in advisory processes to ensure that federal management and decision making reflect provincial interest in Pacific fisheries
   
2. advancing provincial interests in commercial and recreational marine fisheries through collaborative management arrangements
   
3. participation in federal advisory processes, including those for Marine Protection Areas
   
4. identify and support initiatives that increase First Nations participation in marine fisheries
   
5. build and maintain international and intergovernmental relationships that address fisheries issues
   
6. build and partner initiatives that enhance the recreational angling experience in British Columbia, in particular a renewal of the Georgia Strait Fisheries and other activities that will improve the quality, consistency and safety of the sport fisheries sector
