Back on the Job
Two days after being re-appointed to Cabinet, Environment Minister Barry Penner (right) travelled to the north end of Harrison Lake to check out a number of renewable energy projects and visit constituents. Here he is shown at a waterfall on Tipella Creek, which acts as a natural fish barrier. Above this point, Cloudworks Energy of Vancouver has built a small hydro project in partnership with the Douglas First Nation to generate zero-emission power for local residents and BC Hydro.

Minister Penner (left to right) at the Fire Creek intake speaking with In-SHUCK-ch Chief Negotiator Gerard Peters, Douglas Band Chief Don Harris and former Chief Darryl Peters. This intake structure has a fish ladder to assist resident trout (the creek was stocked with trout about 35 years ago by loggers) move up and down the creek. There are no salmon in the creek due to a “natural fish barrier” like the one pictured below.

A CTV camera man gets a shot of a “natural fish barrier” above Tipella Creek, similar to the other natural barriers above which the Upper Harrison projects are built.
