SOURCE: Baker, R.F., 2002. Fish mercury database – 2001 British Columbia. Prepared by Aqualibrium Environmental Consulting, Vancouver for BC Hydro, Burnaby BC.

Mercury in the environment is a concern because of the possibility of risk to human health. When mercury levels in Bull Trout and Lake Trout exceed the Canadian standard for human consumption (500 ppb), fish consumption advisories are issued. Advisories for Jack of Clubs Lake (not shown) and Pinchi Lake are related to past mining activities. An advisory for Williston Reservoir is a result of dam impoundment. Mercury concentration in the food chain is less of a concern in British Columbia than in eastern North America.
