British Columbia/Washington Environmental Cooperation Council

The Role of the ECC

The Environmental Cooperation Council provides a forum for communicating and cooperating on transboundary issues of common concern. It provides an institutional framework for agency cooperation that can leverage support from American and Canadian federal agencies. With this support, the ECC continues to be a significant catalyst to cooperative environmental management.

The Task Forces are the principal means of engaging agencies, stakeholders, or interested parties in developing solutions. Due to the importance placed on the Task Forces by the ECC, agency managers are keen to commit staff time and resources to transboundary issues. The Task Forces report directly to the Council.

The ECC usually meets twice a year. British Columbia and Washington State alternatively host the public meetings. Summaries of meetings and annual reports are available at Reports / Publications.
