In March, 1999, the ministry released the document "Tackling
Non-Point Source Water Pollution in British Columbia: An
Action Plan". The Action Plan outlines 20 key actions
to manage NPS pollution. It describes NPS pollution, identifies
priorities and the necessary steps to address NPS pollution
and recommends coordinated efforts between stakeholders
(including all levels of government, stewardship groups,
and the general public). The implementation strategy for
the NPS Action Plan identifies the provincial role as:
- providing
leadership to others;
- supporting
other agencies and building partnerships in developing
NPS prevention strategies; and
- supporting
pilot projects
