User's Guide for ERM Mapping Tool

Make Polygon Labels

Read here about menu options that permit you to make labels.

The ERM mapping tool permits you to make polygons labels. You can choose to make standard TEM labels, or custom-made labels.

While making labels you can choose fields to include in the labels, you can add custom text to labels, and make labels that are multi-lined. Table 1 shows some sample labels with a brief description of how they were made. Use Arcview to edit size, font, style, and color of labels.

Label Description
A standard TEM label. While making a standard TEM label, the ERM mapping tool cleans the label to remove lines that start with zero. That is why the third decile does not show up as '0'.
The same label as above, except with the text '0% ' added to the label to make the label easier to read.
A label made from the terrain fields Tdec, Surfm, Surf_ea, Surf_eb, and with the text '0% ' added after the Tdec field. The Clean Labels option was checked and that is why the 3rd decile does not show up as '0'.
The same label as above, except the Clean Labels option was not checked.
A label made of the standard fields used for a TEM label, plus a couple 'nl' (new line) characters, plus text such as '0% ' and 'Surf Mat::'.

The mechanics of providing specifications and of making labels are described here.
