Guide for the Resource Ratings Modeling Tool (Version 3.xx)
Introduction
Download and Install Tool
The RRM tool is part of the ERM
System. It is an add-in for Excel and was developed to assist
biologists in populating resource
ratings tables (RRTs).
Usually, in order to populate a RRTs with ratings, many assignments
are manually made even though relatively few decisions are made.
The RRM method provides definitions, concepts,
and structure to document the few decisions. The RRM tool
is software that facilitates application of the RRM method by
automating the process of making numerous assignments. The RRM
method and tool are being investigated
as an alternative process for populating ratings tables and do
not replace or alter the current RISC[formerly
RIC] standard (BC Wildlife Habitat Rating Standards 1999).
BEI,
PEM
and TEM, and VRI
are used extensively to provide baseline ecosystem information.
Resource ratings tables provide the resource values of each mapped
'ecosystem unit'. Subsequently the ratings are used to produce
map themes that are used for resource planning. (The VRI
sample model contains all data required to generate sample
themes)
The ratings are normally applied manually by an ecosystem interpreter
to each ecosystem unit for each resource. By automating this procedure
using the RRM tool, the interpreter's reasoning is more transparent
(but still based on expert opinion).
The result is a streamlined process for integrating resource knowledge
into resource planning initiatives that will better support management
of resources throughout the province.
Applicability
of RRM method and tool
The RRM method and tool are
applicable to BEI,
PEM,
TEM,
and VRI
and they can be applied to any system in which attributes are
measured or recorded, and the attributes are related to resource
values. For example, these sample
models are made using inputs from VRI, BEI, and PEM.
