Before submitting incidental observations it is important to consider:

  1. Data Authority and Ownership
  2. Personal and Private Information

1. Data Authority and Ownership

According to Section 1 of the Species and Ecosystems Data and Information (SEDIS) procedures, all data submitted to the provincial repositories must be submitted with the appropriate authority. You must ensure necessary permits were in place; you have intellectual property rights or are acting as an agent for the owner of the intellectual property rights; the collection and collation of the data and information did not violate any provincial or federal statutes; and that if any data has been collected on private lands that has required access to those lands, you can demonstrate you have the landowner's permission to submit the data.

2. Personal and Private Information

All data and information must meet the criteria outlined in the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPPA).
