Digital Reports/Data/Publications

  • B.C. FrogWatch – General information on frogs, salamanders and turtles
  • Cross-linked Information Resources (CLIR) – use this umbrella search application to search multiple Ministry environmental and natural resource information e-libraries simultaneously through a single search window. Use CLIR when the specific sources for information are unknown to you. If you know where the information can be found, then you may be interested in going directly to the relevant e-library below.
    • B.C. Species & Ecosystems Explorer – Species reports and references.
      Instructions: search for your species of interest and click on its name.
    • EcoCat  – Digital reports, maps, photos, data about aquatic and terrestrial species and habitats, floodplain mapping, groundwater and vegetation.
    • EIRS Biodiversity e-Library – Broad range of technical and non-technical publications on species and the habitats in which they live - and more.
    • Ministry Library (shared Ministry of Environment and Ministry of Forests and Range).
    • Species Inventory Web Explorer – Wildlife inventory and monitoring project reports and original data.
  • Diseases You Can Get From Wildlife – Disease risk information
  • Recovery Planning – Recovery Strategies & Plans for Species at Risk

Maps (Digital and Interactive) 

  • B.C. Species & Ecosystems Explorer –Generalized locations using Google Maps. Instructions: after your search results are displayed, click on the Globe Icon under Locations.
  • Species-at-risk mapped known locations (Occurrences)
  • DataBC: Window to data and information sources provided by various Provincial Government ministries and agencies from the Natural Resource Sector. DataBC has applications that allow you to view, discover or download Ecosystem Branch data stored in the BC Geographic Warehouse (BCGW). The following tools can be accessed through the Geographic Services:
    • View Data: iMapBC
      Instructions: From the Map Layers click on “Add”, select  the "Fish Wildlife and Plant Species" folder, then select the "Wildlife Species Inventory Points Nonsensitive" layer.
    • Discover Data: To find out what data is available search the Discovery Service
    • Download Data: Comprehensive spatial views from the BC Geographic Warehouse (BCGW), for use in desktop GIS analysis, can be ordered from the Data Distribution Service
