Biogeoclimatic (BGC) Units

BGC searches are available for:

• Ecological communities. Note: the list in the right-hand box is restricted to only those subzones, variants and phases that occur in the selected BGC zones. If no BGC zones are selected all BGC units are displayed in the right-hand box.
• Vascular plants that are red- or blue-Listed or legally designated.
• Non-vascular plants that are listed under the SARA.
• Animals that are red- or blue-Listed or legally designated and breed in B.C. Note: If an animal occurs as a non-breeder in a selected BGC, but breeds in B.C., it will still show up in the search results for the selected BGC.

Note: BGC search criteria for species are limited to zones. BGC search criteria for ecological communities include zones, subzones, variants and phases.

Search Tips:

• Use the drop down menu to select BGC units. To select more than one BGC unit at a time, hold down the Ctrl or Shift key while making selections.
• If you do not want to limit your search to a BGC unit, choose the blank line at the top of the BGC unit list.
• BGC unit searches can be combined with other search criteria.

Click on the Map button to view a map of BGC zones. This map is also available in a higher-resolution, PDF (6.5 MB) format.

Two versions of maps of BGC subzones, variants and phases by Forest District, are available in PDF format:

• Wall maps (simplified base map, 5-25 MB): from FTP site or Index Map
• Field maps (detailed base map, 7-45 MB): from FTP site or Index Map
