Location:
The site is located at 11.5 km on the 100 Road in the Eagle Creek
watershed. The unnamed stream flows from Peach Lake into Oie Creek.
Introduction:
Rainbow trout and other non-gamefish species are found in the
stream.
Assessments and Prescriptions:
The fish passage-culvert inspection report completed for the
Eagle Creek Watershed identified this site as the second priority
for restoration. Water velocity through the crossing structures
was 1.8 m/s and a 15 cm outfall drop existed (fig. 7-1).The stream
width at the site (over 3.5 meters) meant that a bridge was the
best option to restore fish passage.
Rehabilitation Work:
- A bypass channel was constructed and armoured to accommodate
the stream during culvert removal and channel reconstruction
(fig. 7-2).
- Silt fences were installed downstream during all phases of
construction to maintain water quality
- An environmental monitor was on site for all phases of construction.
Structure Details :
- 11 meter concrete decked bridge (fig. 7-3)
- precast concrete footing and steel towers
- reconstructed channel width 4 meters
Cost Summary:
- Bridge design, supply and install $46,780
- Riprap, site plan and supervision $11688
- Total $58,468
Environmental Benefits: 4.25 km of additional habitat
are now available to fish.
