Band-Tailed Pigeon
In the Chilliwack area, some Band-Tailed Pigeons were equipped with solar-powered satellite transmitters, which might have up to a 3-year life expectancy (mineral spring surveys have been completed to insure the birds are in good health, with no obvious adverse effects from the harness). The transmitters were kindly paid for by the US Fish and Wildlife Office in Portland OR and deployed under the Pacific Flyway Project led by Dr. Mike Casazza from the U.S. Geological Survey in Dixon CA. This provides a source of needed information on breeding, migration and wintering areas of B.C. birds and some inkling as to how they are connected with other Flyway BTPI. |
