The Ministry of Environment is expected to meet with the Working Groups and respond to the recommendations in mid-November 2009. The ministry response will be posted on this website after the November meeting of the Working Groups. If you wish to receive an email notice when the ministry’s response is posted, let us know.

Volunteer members of the three Working Groups met for three weekend-long sessions in May and June 2009 using information from the Phase II Consultation Report to develop their recommendations.

During the fall 2008 consultation period, input was received that the QWS process could be improved by additional representation from the business community. The revised composition of the Working Groups included:

  • Five resident anglers
  • Three angling guides
  • One business representative
  • One tourism representative
  • One ministry coordinator

Timing of Angling Management Plan Implementation

Originally, Angling Management Plans were slated for implementation in the 2010/2011 angling season. As of April 1, 2009, the Ministry of Environment has entered into a two-year regulation cycle, primarily to lower the costs associated with producing, printing and distributing the freshwater angling synopsis each year. Hence, Angling Management Plans developed as part of the Skeena Quality Waters Strategy will be implemented during the 2011/2012 angling season at the earliest.
