Interior Cedar Hemlock Biogeoclimatic zone (ICH)



Ecoregions: Southern Interior Mountains and Sub-boreal Interior
Elevations: 400-1500m
Latitudes: 49-54 degrees
 
Description:

  • Lower to mid-elevations on the windward slopes of the Cariboo, Monashee and Selkirk mountains; in the floodplains of the Purcell and Continental Ranges; and in the Nass basin of northwestern BC
  • Grades into IDF at lower elevations in the souther interior and SBS in the central interior. Grades into ESSF at higher elevations in all areas
  • Winters cool and wet; summers warm and dry
  • Most productive interior forest zone with a great diversity of tree species, including western hemlock, western red cedar, and hybrid spruce in moist areas. Douglas-fir and lodgepole pine occur on drier sites and as seral communities. Devil's club and skunk cabbage dominate in wetter sites
