When did the new Transporter regulation become effective and what is it?

The new Transporter regulation (Order In Council #63) became effective January 27, 2005. And, it sets out all of the terms, conditions, eligibility and requirements for persons applying to become licenced to transport resident hunters in British Columbia.

What is the definition of a Transporter?

Definition: “transporter” means a person who, for money or other compensation, transports a hunter to, from or between locations so that the hunter can hunt but does not include a person who operates a scheduled commercial flight or a chartered aircraft unless the person also provides ground transportation, accommodation or other ground services to the hunter.

What is the purpose of licensing Transporters?

The licensing of Transporters will help reduce adverse impacts on habitat and wildlife resources and reduce conflicts between guide outfitters and transporters by clearly defining the activities in which licenced members of each group may engage.

What happens if I perform transporter services without a Transporter Licence?

You will be in violation of the Wildlife Act and will be subject to all of the penalties associated with licensing, within the Wildlife Act.

Who can apply for a Transporter Licence?

Transporter licences will be available to applicants where they can meet the regulation conditions and eligibility criteria and where the Director of Fish and Wildlife Branch determines that their operations do not negatively affect the resource sustainability of wildlife resources.

Is there a Transporter exam and what does it cost?

Yes, as part of the eligibility requirements all applicants for a Transporter Licence must complete and pass a Transporter exam. The minimum passing grade is 80%. There is no additional cost for the exam.


What do I study for the exam?

Transporter exam questions were developed from information contained within the following three documents:

1) B.C. Wildlife Act
2) B.C. Wildlife Act, Commercial Activities Regulation
3) B.C. Annual Hunting and Trapping Regulations Synopsis (current version)
You are advised to study these documents, in particular all areas that relate to hunting activities.
